People don't care!

Saturday my wife was stuck in Nice (She attended the Cannes media week ). Strikes all over France, once finally inside the plane the airport handling guys hit the plane with the stairs and they had to go back to a hotel because the plane was damaged. Of course it takes hours to embark and disembark and to get the Hotel Voucher. Next day no food service because of another strike and the plane stayed in the Tarmac for 2 hours without water waiting for the controllers to give the green light. Why do European equities underperform? Because there is not a culture of delivering a service. People (public service) don’t care about the final client. I will short Europe anytime. Not all Europe UK is not like that and Switzerland too.

Sometimes I tell my kids it’s easy to do well in life, why because 90% of the people don’t care they don’t care the way they put dishes in the washing machine, they don’t care the way they make their bed, they don’t care the way they park the car. Lots of people need someone that comes after to fix the job.  If you care you are in the top 10% just like that. In Nice they don’t care.

The Real Company Values, as opposed to the nice sounding values, are shown by who gets promoted, rewarded or let go

Rick Hastings Netflix

Yes you get what you pay for. simple. when you promote someone in your firm people will copy that person. it works.

My new year predictions for the future

"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."

Robert Frost

My view of the world for 2017 and on is the following

1.The improvement of everything that we have seen in the last 200 years from declining in crime, curruption, growing life expectancy etc... will continue. These are facts not impressions.
2.The good old days were not good at all
3.Productuvity growth is deflationary. I see more discoveries and new Technics to do more with less.
4.No inflation
5.Plenty of free time. Lot of people with not a lot to do.
6.Leisure, sports, meditation, tourism, Yoga, Shiatzu, culture will continue to grow
7.Very difficult environment to make money with money
8.Specialization will increase with online information it pays to be the best
9.The EU will stay together because the younger generation want it
10.Less and Less babies everywhere
11.If it pays big time to be the best in a Globalized world the big contries that strive to be the best will continue to do well
12.People will continue to be nicer to each other and to treat well animals etc... more & more
13.Communications are almost free in the Developed countries (Skype, What's up, etc...) more things will be free in the future (energy, trasportation etc...)
14.As long as open borders and "free" commerce are still intact it's doesn't matter which government we have. less and less people will vote and really it doesn't matter
15.The countries that are out of free commerce will continue to get poor & poor
16.One day governments will try to tax asset's and not income. It will be trendy to have very little
17.Brexit doesn't matter as long as they trade freely with Europe
18.oil could go down big time in 2017
19.Interest rates will tend to zero
20.Education will be free. It doesn't make sense to pay a lot for high education
21.Move to the cities will continue because it's more fun, more security, more opportunity to live in a big city
22.Number of Holiday days is going to grow
23.Technology & big data will win over tradition & guessing
24.The countries that vote for less open market policies will suffer and will be poor. It takes time but the result is always the same
25.I don't see a bull market in equities
26.I see bull market in some stock's and companies not markets
27.Since people are flowing to cities the planet says thanks. More forests, more free space etc...

Life has never been better but we have to get busy. There are reasons to get busy, culture, education and many many things are essentially free

enjoy them!

Work will work when nothing else is working

The secrets of life are hidden behind the word cliché

He had heard certain phrases like “ eat more vegetables” a million times, but ignored them for years, as it seemed too simplistic. Ultimately, it was the simple that worked

Shay Carl

This is not cliché but it’s also true

Work will work when nothing else is working
 Shay Carl

You realize that you will never be the best looking person in the room, you’ll never be the smartest person in the room. You’ll never be the most educated, the most well versed. You can never compete on those levels. But what you can always compete on, the true egalitarian aspect of success, is hard work. You can always work harder than the next guy
 Casey Neistat

Nothing works like work. i have seen it it's good to be smart but you can outwork almost everybody. I have noticed that what differentiates people is not what they do at work on normal job hours because everybody does the same, what you do at night makes a big difference.

people think that the smart people with the highest IQ win but that is not true work + action always ultimately win.

No hurry, no pause

you can get 95%of the results you want by calmly putting one foot in front of the other

Tim Ferriss

I think this is very much true, do't rush but don't ever stop. just keep going. In my bike races if i stop to pee it's almost impossible to get back to the group! That it's why i never stop, just keep going for hours and hours.

here is a picture from saturday we rode until the end of Europe, Cabo da Roca the most western point in Europe.

Across the sea we have USA.

Notes:

yesterday i order some toys for my 2 year old son at Amazon. I was amazed that they email me later in the day saying that Your Amazon.co.uk order of "Orchard Toys Red Dog, Blue Dog" and 3 more item(s) has been dispatched! Amazon is a very good logistic business they can pack and ship my items in a matter of hours.

Good news is no news. Unfortunately it's true. If i own a TV channel i would give notice to the wonderful things that are happening in the world everywhere. yes the world is getting better in everything for 200 years non stop, from poverty, to crime, to air pollution, hunger, disease , child mortality, longevity, quality of life, leisure time,  everything ...........but the media always tries to crate a view that the Good old times where so much better. There where never good old times, only struggle and pain. People love to complain.

what could disrupt this 200 year march of progress and prosperity? only one thing, lack of commerce, lack of globalization and treat to property rights. Yes just look at the only place in the world where progress and improvements are almost frozen for 70 years. Africa. NO property right and the borders are close to commerce.

Have a wonderful weekend. Here in Lisbon i hope to cycle outdoors.

How to sleep better

I read the book from Nick Littlehales (Sky team coach) and some other articles about the subject. I fall asleep easily but i wake time and time again during the night.

What do i take from all this reading that i can use in my life

1.you sleep less and less as you become older
2.you feel sleepy during some parts of the day even if you slept a perfect night the previous day
3.If you sleep one night really bad there is no problem, as long as on a week basis you have some days with normal sleep
4.there is only one good position to sleep well. Side to your weakest side (my case left). i use to sleep belly down.
5.you should wake up everyday, weekends included at the same time
6.if you have a party and get to bed later that usual don't compensate and sleep late
7.don't overeat & drink before going to bed
8.Don't have phones , i-pads or tv in the bedroom
9.Don't check your phone in the middle of the night
10.Don't have a too hard mattress
11. Do some exercise, get some natural light during the day.
12.Keep your room dark, cool and quiet
13.nap as much as you can but for a short time each time.

I will try the side position and to cut a bit on the coffee!

Weekend Edition

If you were allowed one wish for your child, seriously consider wishing him or her optimism.

Optimists are normally cheerful and happy, and therefore popular; they are resilient in adapting to failures and hardships, their chances of clinical depression are reduced, their immune system is stronger, they take better care of their health, they feel healthier than others and are in fact likely to live longer.
Daniel Kahneman, Nobel laureate in Economics

Most environmentalists still haven’t got the word. Worldwide birth rates are in free fall…On every part of every continent and in every culture (even Mormon), birth rates are headed down. They reach replacement level and kept on dropping
Stewart Brand

Speak properly, and in as few words as you can, but always plainly; for the end of speech is not ostentation, but to be understood.
