You don’t need mentors, you need action

"You don’t need mentors, you need action."

@naval

Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.

Action is the foundational key to all success.

Most of the new things fail

We should always do what has worked forever. what we did in COVID not letting the pandemic spread & dissipate fast was a disaster. To try to push the world into green energy that is not green and is not economic might backfire as the covid policy did. In Covid we had Sweden as a comparison in Energy we have emerging markets that are so poor they can't afford to do stupid things /untested. Sweden did very well, emerging markets perhaps finally emerge at least some of them.

Benjamin franklin quotes “Eat to live, don't live to eat''

When I fast , body eats fat. no sugar involved no roller coaster no inflammation better quality of thinking. This is true. I am not a MD but I can tell everyone that there is zero problems in skipping meals , breakfast etc...

"The optimal zone for performance is “slightly hungry.”"

@naval
Fasting can increase BDNF levels, which may lead to improved cognitive function, learning and memory. Reduced inflammation: Intermittent fasting can help decrease inflammation in the body, including the brain.
Intermittent fasting turns on an important process called autophagy, in which your brain “takes out the trash” that builds up during the day. This self-cleaning process helps detoxify the brain, clear out old and damaged cells, and sweep away debris.
Restricting the hours when you eat has been shown to significantly improve memory, according to a study in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In this study, after 4 weeks of intermittent fasting, performance on a spatial planning and working memory task and on a working memory capacity test increased significantly. Additional research on animals has found that intermittent fasting improves learning and memory.

Government Bull market

Monday, September 25, 2023 Francisco 0 Comments

Government  is way out messing in everything and touching all aspects of your life. The best is to ignore news and government, lay low and live your life. There is always some emergency that justifies the government intervention. Ignore everything , there is nothing new , read , learn a new language, do a puzzle, do some sports & yoga, take care of your garden,  and don't forget you don't lose anything for not being in tik-tok or watching the news. Nothing.

Governing a great nation is like cooking a small fish - too much handling will spoil it.

The selfish reason to be ethical

What gave me unexpected JOY in the last 4 years

Thursday, September 14, 2023 Francisco 0 Comments

I did this Van Gogh puzzle during lockdowns (2020) , it took me a long time but it was a pleasure each time I did some progress. The JOY of the small things is the best thing. To have patience it's a huge edge in everything in life. Do it slow and well and it becomes a pleasure. Nuno Cobra the personal coach of Ayrton Senna said you can change your life of you chew at least 10 times everything you eat. slow beats everything. My father drinks 1 glass of wine every meal, just one. I think he enjoys wine a lot because of this. small sips.

smell the food and chew at least 10 times before swallowing the food

the best way to get what you want in life is

Sunday, September 10, 2023 Francisco 0 Comments

“I'm also a total nut on the subject that the best way to get what you want in life is to deserve what you want. Of course, if you apply that to business, that means you really take care of the customers.”

- Charlie Munger

What Charlie means I think it's don't expect surprises, deserve what you want , work for it, focus, put the hours and you probably get it. Don't diversify, don't multitask.

It is more difficult to stay on top than .......

Friday, September 08, 2023 Francisco 0 Comments

 What is right?

This

The Lindy effect (also known as Lindy's Law) is a theorized phenomenon by which the future life expectancy of some non-perishable things, like a technology or an idea, is proportional to their current age.

or this

It is more difficult to stay on top than to get there.

Mia Hamm

Larry Hamtil call my attention to this graph. The title says it all. However since 2010 something changed!

The top 5 European's Soccer/Football clubs are pretty much the same since 2010, and are probably even better vs the rest

The Top 5 hedge Funds in the world Millennium , Brevan etc... are the same since 2010 and probably even better

The top 100 Companies in 2020 have the same market cap as they did in 2010 and are even more competitive.

Did something change in this world?  I tend to think there is never nothing new.  I think the normal cycle of being the best, getting big & fat, loss of focus and mean reverting will still be in place. In the case of Hedge Funds the best of them are doing something different, no growth of assets, return capital to investors, create better liquidity for themselves and that as keep them focus and sharp.

for how long?

Of course if you Buy something in the percentile 99 and it falls to percentile 90 is still incredible. I think this is the Lindy Effect.

Buy something big and tested/old and you will do very ok.
